My list of great books!
Lindsay Davis: the Marcus Didius Falco series. He is an "informer" in ancient Rome. For the history, start with the first book, 'The Silver Pigs', but they get lighter and funnier into the series. My trip to Rome meant so much more because of this series.
J.D. Robb: In Death Series: The first chapter can often be a bit gory, but from then on I love the mystery, characters, the forensics and futuristic element. I think I've read all of these!
Amy Chua: Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother; This book cause quite a stir regarding 'parenting'. Not sure I would have survived a Mother like this!
